    Question Revamping 4311s

I have apair of 4311s I ppurchased new in '71 or '72. They have seen moderate to light use and lots of storage time. The terminal posts on one are lose and the grills are in pretty poor shape. The foam seems to be rotten.

Is there any guide as to what I need to know before I dig in? What are the got ya's? Basically where do I start and what do I watch out for?

Thanks for any and all help.

You can tighten the speaker posts once you figure how to get the woofer out
(take your time). By "foam", I assume you mean around the tweeter. Ebay
has replacements constantly available... just don't f* up the fine wires
under the foam. Grilles? Zilch here has nice cloth if you're into blue (I like
the black on these) ... not terribly hard to make if yours are munched
(rectangle w/ oval hole & some velcro) -grumpy

    Removing the Woofer

Hmm.. Sounds like removing the woofer may pose some problems and call for creativity. I'm sure someone out there has a solution for woofer extraction. Any hints as to what I can expect and the strategy to apply? I do not want to f*** p anything.

    Thanks

    4311 woofer extraction

heh. yes, they're often "stuck." Take your time, steady even wide-bladed
pressure (something thin and wider than a screwdriver) after you've removed
the screws... don't want to mar the cabinet face or hurt yourself
Once it starts separating from the cabinet, slow down so it doesn't surprise
    you (cabinet on back). -grumpy

    My Starting Point

Here are my 4311's (SN 19774 and19832) just after I brought them in from the garage and cleaned them up a bit. You can also see my Sansui AU9500 and TU9500 amp and tuner that I hope to be driving them with soon. I resisted teh urge to powerup the 9500. I'm afraid of what might happen. It's been 10+ years since power was applied.
