It should be noted that Harman Japan operates fairly independently within Harman International to the point that they commission their own design and manufacturing (mainly in China) for much of their product line. In other words, Northridge has nothing to do with most of the JBL branded speakers sold there. To my knowledge, the only exceptions for the JBL product line currently listed on Harman Japan's website are:

    S9800
    S5800
    S4800
    SK2-1000
    HC5000
    HB5000
    4348
    4328
    4318
    4312D
    Project Array

Thanks for the insight Don. Your "exceptions" are the models that interests me the most.

    Hi,
I believe the 4338 is also made in Northridge. You write 4328, but do you actually mean 4428?

Thank you for that. Very useful, although I've already listened to a couple of pairs and want them :-)

    JBL 4338

I am planning to buy a pair of 4338 studio monitors in Japan. What do you think of these speakers ? Are they a good value ?
I mentionned they won't replace any other speakers in my system. So, comparing to 4333, 4430, K2 s4800 , are they suffering to be compare with ?

    Salut caladois,
They are among the best speakers I have ever heard. The 4338s combine the very low distortion and excellent neutrality of the 9800s with the kick and groove of the classic monitors.
A case of having one's cake and eating it.
They are voiced for Japan, though - essentially rolled early in the bass to compensate for the room gain typical of our concrete hutches. However, brilliant dynamics and leading edges more than make up IMO.
    I'm saving up.

And that's the price per speaker... They are expensive, but in audio terms very good value.
I am tempted by the "small" ones. I can actually just about afford those
Need to get a good listen first, though.

The 4428 has a 1200Fe in it. Is the compression driver a 435Al? And the UHF? Looks like a take on the Array. If so, this is not that expensive at the retail price.

    Hi,
The driver complement is as follows:
    1200FE-8 30cm driver
175-ND2 50mm "pure Titan" compression driver + biradial horn
    015M 19mm "
polypropylene ring radiator" + biradial horn
This info is from the Harman JP site.
