2202h and 2204h frames the same?

Yes, I did search for this and after digging through many posts, have not found this yet. I did find something about the 2203 though.

Appears there are physical and acoustic differences... 2202 has a smooth cone surface and the 2204 is ribbed, 2202 has more mid frequency extension where the 2204 has more low freq. extension. Also appears that they both use a 4" voice coil in the "Symmetrical Field Geometry" series of frame.

So, are the 2202 and 2204 frames the same?

    i.e. can a 2202 be reconed as a 2204 and verse - visa?

    Thanks,
    chad

    compatible frames...

    - Orange County Speaker says yes
    - JBL service says no (the person I talked to in service seemed a bit distant / uncertain in finding the answer)

    - edgewound says yes.

    Hmmm..

    by the numbers....

The magnets + frames are identical on the 2202, 2203 and 2204 and any can be reconed with the desired kit.

In addition that same magnet is used in many 15's ( 2225,35,05,etc )

The gap geometry is the same on the K120 and it's alnico pro variations ( 2202A, 2203A, 124A (?) but NOT the E120 since that has a more powerful magnet that would reduce the LF response....

There are many other power handling, excursion and response issues to consider when using alternate frames so make sure you get all the facts before sinking $$ into reconing.

This is correct, and also applies to the 121H and 124H (the consumer version of the 2203, in essence). Same exact geometry, same magnet specs.

Also, along with the E120, another one you want to avoid, obviously, would be the 2206... it's vented gap, and as such, is totally different...

    Gordon.
