    Q: 125A vs 127H Woofers

These are essentially the same woofer except for the magnet & dustcap orientation, correct?

I had read commentary here earlier that the ferrite version of the L19 woofer (116H) was a better bass performer than the alnico version. Does that hold for the 10", 127H woofer above? Or, is the 127H better suited for a 3-way?

The reason I ask is that I was offered a set of 127H's at short money needing surrounds. I am restoring a set of Primas & wondered if this would be an upgrade or just different?

    Saturday morning thoughts appreciated.

Funny this comes up now. A friend has a pair of L40's w/ 127a's and wonderful bass (for what they are.) I found him another pair of 40's but they did not have near the bass response. Upon further investigation, they had 127H woofers. Yesterday I swapped them with 127a's and PRESTO!!! Bass response was back like it should be! Is it "just" the difference in woofers or are the early and later crossovers designed different to accomodate A vs H ? May never know but he's REALLY happy and I now have another unanswered question. Gotta LOVE IT

I consider the little 8" 116A and 10" 125A/127A a testament to what JBL could do with relatively cheap drivers. Can we all agree that they were quite good in the L16, L19, 4301, L40 and L50?

One can look to the L80T, L80t3, XPL160 and 4410 to see where JBL took the 127H design.
