"Inverted" dome, "Normal" dome, why they do that?

"Inverted" dome, "Normal" dome, why they do that? I wondered, why did JBL do an inverted dome in the 10" 125A in system L36, and not in other (127A) woofers? Do they perform, (sound) different? Why, just, Why? Fashon? Sound? Any answers..... Thanks, Rolf E.

Anyone know the specific reason JBL did this? A search failed to answer this Q.

Inverted domes came from reasearch done by EPI and to my knowledge they used the design first. The inverted dome has interesting dispersion characteristics and can be very rigid and strong.

children have a more difficult time pushing the cones in, maybe that is where the idea came from

That is quite strange. I Advanced Searched for "inverted dome" by a specific member. The hits were quite specifically useful. I checked the results - they worked great. I come away, and they fail.

So, try the Search yourselves. The member was "Giskard" - the posts were quite topical. Sorry this has been so spotty...
