I'm certainly not complaining abou the current market, as I have a pair of S7 Olympus, but what is the fascination with LE15s? A pair just sold on Ebay for just over $1,000.

That was a somewhat exceptionally clean pair in the Blue color. When you gotta have them and they don't show up like that too often, you bid what it takes. Not to say that they are not excellent LF Divers, they are.
In what manner are people using them?
I cannot ever say what or why someone will use any driver for, but, I would think a custom Olympus with rare blue drivers, or any of the other models in which the LE15 is used. Or build you own cabs. Or sometimes I've even paid a premium price for a driver just because of how rare it is, just to have it. This is all speculation on my part. I do know that there are blue LE85/H91 combo's and even LX5 crossovers that came in blue for a VERY short time, I think around 1962.
Check out the bidders and where they're from.
