    I just bought....

I just bought a set of ALTEC A7 Cabinets w/crossovers...

there are no drivers, it had been loaded with JBL 2220, and the ALTEC 511B horns...

I also have a pair of TAD 1601.a loudspeakers that I am thinking of using for the 15"......

    A. What do you all think of that use for the TAD? I think it should be good,
but i dunno still kinda a newb....

    B. I need to source some 511B horns (shouldn't be too big a prob, they seem pretty readily available), any recommendations for the HF driver?

    Thanks,
    david

Actually, you might be suprised at how the TAD could sound in that box, since it has better LF capabilities than the original, or the 2220. Would need EQ, but could sound good. Might make up for the weak LF response of the stock A7, as the TAD should handle the boost.

You may want to brace the cabinets before you turn them up. The A-7 has Acoustically Tuned Wall Subharmonics. ...well I'm trying my hand a putting a good spin on stuff.

Yea I hear that you really can not add too much bracing, I read somewhere that in addition to adding bracing ot the interior of the bottom of the cabinet it would be a good idea to add an additional layer of 19mm ply around the perimeter of the box......

I will keep reading up and keep you guys posted on how my project is going.....
maybe even post some pics in the near future.....

Thanks again, this forum is THE BEST!

See what you might be able to find on an Exemplar, which is a modified, strengthened A7 design, said to be very nice and well thought out. Somewhere there oughta be some info on the modifications.

    as you can see....

kind of evolved into a totally different animal.....

from what I gather it is kind of built on a hybrid 816/A7 theory....
seems like a lot of engineering....
