    JBL 4341 vs 4343B

I currently have a set of JBL 4341’s, and I really like how they sound. I have the opportunity to purchase a set of 4343B’s.They use the same drivers, and I know the 4343B has a larger cabinet. Also they are bi-ampable and have an improved crossover. I like that the 4341 have risers, where you have to buy/build stands for the 4343.But is it $3K better? Looking for opinions from people that have had or have listened to both.Current JBL’s: 18Ti, 240Ti, 250Ti, L200, L300, 4341

I have only heard of 4343 but I can’t imagine the upgrade is worth it especially since you already have and like 4341.

I had a set of 4341s for a couple years. Sure, the 4343s are a bit larger, and the 4345s even more so - the 18 inch woofer is a major change,
but I think changing from 4341 to 4343 won't gain you much.
The real change would be swapping out the original 4341 1st generation crossover for one of the newer designs, to make the most of your drivers.

It would seem to me from what I've gleaned here over the years of listening and observing, that the 2235H driver goes a long way toward improving bass response in all the 4340.4341, 4343, 4343B, and 4333.

Probably a cheaper upgrade than replacing yours with something nearly the same as what you've got and still having the same woofer.
". . . as you have no doubt noticed, no one told the 4345 that it can't work correctly so it does anyway."—Greg Timbers

Yes, both having the same drivers is what has kept me from getting the 4343B’s. Plus I really like the cabinet size of the 4341’s. Thanks for your reply.

I agree, updating the crossover makes more sense. Thanks for your reply.

I seriously don’t think that I’ll ever part with the 4341’s. Thanks for your reply.

Hello, The volume is identical because the 4341 is deeper. I find the 4341 prettier.I remember a testimony that owned both and preferred the 4341.

I agree that the 4341 looks nicer, and also has the added benefit of a riser.

Actually if you read the specs the 4340/1’s midrange chamber (10inch) is 0.3 cubic feet while the 4343’s midrange chamber is 0.5 cubic feet. Taking the crossover points into consideration i don’t think this a huge difference in sound but the 4343s are technically a revised 4340/1. Im running my 4340s in a 4 way active configuration with with the updated 2235 woofers. I’m very pleased with the performance especially at higher volume levels. I Agree with others you should save your money on crossovers and the upgraded 2235 woofers. Plus the 4340/1s are a rarer speaker, only produced for a few years.

We have both pairs here 4341Â’s and 4343Â’s. The 4341Â’s were saved from a fiery death as just cabinets and crossovers. I had all the components to replace everything that was missing. Between the two there did not seem to be much difference but what I felt was a little more upper midbass coloration in the 4341Â’s. This could have been the original crossover or the closer proximity of the 10” to the woofer. A couple of years later I rebuilt the component series in the 4341Â’s to include the 3143 crossover and the 2235H woofer. It did seem to make it closer in sound to the 4343 with a little less upper midbass coloration. I do like the style of the 4341Â’s because in my room it gave me a place to put our 4333A’s. What makes the 4343 a little nicer is the ability to lay them on their sides and reorientate the mid and high frequency drivers. This works best for our monitor when hanging from the ceiling. The 3143 crossover is probably the hardest JBL crossover to rebuild from the ground up. I used a hot plate to heat up the glue to get all the components out. It was well worth the effort. If our room was bigger I would have another pair of either for our 5.1 surround system but will have to make due with the Ti240Â’s built into the ceiling.
