    I'm going to guess it was not for any true audio/speaker application but some sort of vibration mechanical testing driver motor. The box looks very purpose built like it was part of a portable system. Maybe the coil winding was for feedback reference to the testing equipment. As noted the date era of the name decal and the early XL Cannon connector line up.

    Hello Rob!

    In short, no.

    While usually not waiting to get under the hood of just about anything I am quite apprehensive to tear into this thing.

    Derek asked me about it today also and that jogged a thought: I am going to ask George Augspurger about it in the morning. He was hired at JBL in 1958 and I hope he might have seen something about it.
