David. The 4429 and the S4700 look to have the same mid and HF drivers. Horns look to be very similar. If you examine the schematics of each, it becomes obvious that the S4700 crossover is complex by comparison. The 4429, to me, is "dry" in the upper part of the midrange. My guess is, a lot more work and parts were put into the S4700 midrange crossover design. Hopefully the schematics of both get attached with this post!
Looking at the 4429 and S-4700 schematics. The biggest change to the midrange crossover is in R4. They used a 3.0 Ohm resistor verses the 2.2 Ohm in the 4429. That change should raise the lower end of the mid horns response a little and correct the dryness in the above 3kHz response. Just turn the mid L-Pad down. I am making the assumption that the schematics are correct.
