I am looking to buy a pair of JBL 2216ND-1 woofers. Are they available from the JBL? How can I contact them via email?

They say for S4700 but I don't believe their Nd-1. All 4 of mine have fs around 35hz but still need to break in more. Plus their all 6 ohm, not 8 ohm.

There may be some confusion here. The 2216nd was used in the S4700 and the M2. As opposed to the 2216nd-1 which was used in the 4367. Two vendors in the US include Speaker Exchange in Florida and Pro Sound Service in Braintree MA. Please note that if the Speaker Exchange Website shows the item as in stock, it is best to contact them directly and verify

My bad on the confusion part but Speaker Exchange says " no product found for 2216Nd-1" and I've been looking there for a long time. So yes, probably best to call.

Thanks for the responses. So they are unavailable.

I already knew that SpeakerExchange has 2216ND for sale. However, I read that the later version ND-1's cone is coated with Aquaplas. JBL's old Aqualplas-coated woofers sound awesome. Esp. those white-cone ones. So, I believe the ND-1 version is a better woofer.

Recently I have purchased two pair of Bliesma beryllium dome tweeters and midranges. I wanted to build a three way with these Aquaplased 15-inchers... but as it seems, they are not available...

    Related Reading on the 2216nd-1

The 2216nd-1 doesn't really have much aquaplas on it.

It's just a narrow band ( 2"-3" wide ) painted on the back of the cone.

Grumpy posted a few pics of the coating sometime back.

    Here they are :

    Hi Earl,

How different are they sound wise?

Also, I already have a pair of JBL 2235H. How does this 2216ND compare with it?

I would not normally answer such a subjective question but here goes. I have 2235's E-145's and 2216nd's all in active service. I have a pair of 4344's as well with 2235's bi-amped.

The 2235's and E-145's are in my active system the 2216nd's in my passive "M2" clone.

In the active they cover the range 20-300 Hz and and the 2216's from 20-700.

Well here goes I always found the 2235's to be a bit punchy in the sense they popped. With the E-145's they cracked and sounded sharper. Really lousy way to describe this.

Frankly could be the difference is bandwidth related.

In the active I get the low end from the 2235 and balance from the E-145 and in my mind the pair is better than the individuals.

The 2216's sound like the paired drivers You get the low end and the crack in one driver.

JMHO you really need to hear the 2216nd's and decide for yourself. I think they are really great drivers.

So the 2216nd has the "punch" of the 2235 combined with the "snap" of the E145.

    Thanks Rob. That's great praise.

IMO, you're one of the TOTL, go-to guy for these sort of opinions ( having built so many Lansing systems using Legacy & New Series Product ).

    Ramin, I don't have any 2216nd's ( I'm really trying to down-size >> & so far it's not going too well ).
