New Jazz: tradition or technology?

There's a whole scene happening, much coming out of London. My 16 year old son has turned me on to several new artists.

If you ever have an opportunity to see Sons of Kemet, do so. They are great live. Combining elements of Avant garde jazz, tribal rhythms and punk-rock energy they will amazing you with what is possible from a Sax, Tuba and two drummers.

Much of this new wave of jazz is also incorporating elements of hip-hop and rap which really is consistent with the development of jazz through the years.

This video from the Big Ears Festival is great. I saw them at a small/mid size venue in Los Angeles a couple yers ago and they were great.

Tenor Sax Shabaka Hutchings is also involved is several other projects and is central to the East London Jazz scene.

And these two kids and absolutely stratospheric. You can find videos of here doing recitals of Franz Liszt works when she was only 14. And now working multiple keyboards and a full rack of bass pedals she's awesome.

JD Becks drumming is also nuts, seeming playing D&B beats that only drum machines used to do.

When I first heard their record I thought , cool, and good session players too. Then I looked on youTube and realized they can cover it all as a duo.

To me they are mind blowing.
