    Cant remove magnet on 2440? Any tricks

    I have a damaged throat on a 2440, started to warp and crack and would like to know how to get at it but cant get the magnet off.

    You have no way unless you de-magnetize it!

    People have tried other techniques, but the correct method is to demagnetize the driver and then disassemble, reassemble and then remagnetize the driver.

    I had Speaker Pro’s do exactly that on a 2440 with a broken throat for me, this month. $55.00 USD plus shipping.

    They did a very good job.

    The guys that came from Orange County Speaker Repair in CA.

    A note of small consequence, I supplied the throat. They don’t have those.

    I recall a thread here where a member turned some new throats, maybe that thread can shed some light Charles...

    Once you break the circuit of a Alnico magnet it will loose half it's magnetism. When put back together the driver will be about 6db down from normal.

    Yup. No doubt is must be re-magged once re-assembled.

    Thanks for all the input!

    I saw the More10 thread and he told me the info de-mag necessary it seems. will give news on project when I go to the speaker manufacturer who has the proper tools about an hours drive.
