They also show the JBL 1501FE-8 Woofer available for $550.

That's less than retail for a 2450SL. The fact that there is so much JBL Pro onnthenused market has us skewed on what things really cost.

If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

Doesn't make it easy to swallow, either way. I'm not arguing if it should, or shouldn't, cost what it does, just saying it's expensive and out of reach for most DIY'ers.

They're expensive no doubt. That's the reason I have a bunch of SL's.

They are expensive but then add in the shipping?

A pair of $2216 woofers shipped outside mainland USA is really expensive.

But unfortunately any JBL spare parts are what might be deemed expensive if you scan the JBL spares RRP price list.

Holding spares in inventory is an expensive business.

It holds up idle working capital, warehouse.

If you owned a 4367 for example and somehow blew up the woofer or it was destroyed in a removal you would think that JBLs consumer support system would arrange replacement at JBL service centre? (At your cost)

Why are JBL allowing supply chain through an aftermarket reseller?

Perhaps Mexico does not want to know about it?

In terms of diy if you scan the Parts Express website most hi end drivers are in the $300-500 range.

Do diy people spend money on these drivers? Yes but the volumes are relatively low.

The simple reality is a well designed and executed diy project using quality value for money drivers like SB Acoustics is going to have a higher probability meeting expectations than a poorly designed and executed project using hi end drivers.

I am not suggesting that the majority high end driver sales are going to end up in less than satisfactory diy projects but a hi end driver in itself is not guarantee of hi end performance in a diy market.

Donīt know these drivers/crossovers, but I do know speakerexchange.

I have ordered all my JBL diaphragms and cone kits at their shop and had them shipped overseas to germany. The service provided through speakerexchange was great, I can highly recommend them. The shipping costs were a lot cheaper than partsexpress and very fair.
I received a faulty diaphragm and they have send me a new one for free. Very good support!

Are these the same CDs as in the K2 s9900s?

I believe they are as I'm only aware of JBL manufacturing one type of this CD
