Did the 4406 woofer have a rubber surround??
It's almost like it is a plyable plastic surround. Doesn't really feel like rubber. So not sure what it is but it doesn't rot!

Hi Rob!
So do you think it is original?
I have 3 sets of those drivers and for the most part they are all the same. Some are a little softer but all damn close. Those surrounds are exactly like the ones on mine.

Didn't JBL call them polybutyl or something like that? The 4406's sister was the L20ti right? What was the six incher in the L1? It was a paper ribbed cone with a foam surround. I often wondered what that unit would sound like in the 4406 or L20ti......
The woofer in the L1 is another animal entirely 706G-1. I have L3's and they have some kind of "Microlaminate" foam?? Very different from the 115h-1 surround. The surround material is "hard" for lack of a better description. No cells in it at all like a solid plyable material. It's not soft and won't compress if squeezed. Almost looks like some kind on polypropylene like the cones.

L3's.... Speed demons indeed. Like a Hemi cuda on the prowl in these days of slow inefficient super eurotrash speakers. LOL!!!
