    Should I put 2344 between 2380 and 2404?

    Hi,

    I have a 5 ways active
    2245 (0 to 40Hz)
    2225 (40Hz to 200 Hz)
    2118 (200 Hz to 800Hz)
    2445/2380 radian diaphragm (800Hz to 6kHz)
    2404 (6kHz and up)

I get a good deal on 2426/2344 horn. Question: will it be an improvement if I insert this horn between my 2380 and 2404?

If you get the crossover right, then definitely. The crossover will take some work, but you can run all three where they're "happy", allowing you to maximize system efficiency of the mid/high sections, and keep things operating where distortion and possible power compression (with horns... at home... so SMALL diminishing returns) are at their lowest. One option is the use of a 2nd order "filler" slope- this can create a transient-perfect alignment (though nothing is truly perfect). Basically you run the two "outer" (in this case the 2380 horn and 2404) drivers 2nd order but without inverting phase, and use the 2344 to fill in the cancellation dip.

Quite a project, but if you can get that right (at the listening position, the dispersion patterns won't ever be perfect, particularly vertically), you'd have one HECK of a setup.

Of course you could always cheat and use serious DSP instead, in which case none of the extensive effort of developing that passively (it'd require a massive XO with lots of notches/traps) would be required. Line level analog filters would also make it easier- multi-amping is definitely something you'll want to seriously consider unless you want to become a full-bird crossover master.

    Thanks for the reply,

I run with 2 DBX DR260 so crossover design will not be an issue.

Then it's a no-brainer. Rather than stretching the 2404 on its low end, you can use the 2344 for the 1200-5k range (you'll have to balance spacing issues with the low end XO point for the 2344) and use the 2380 and 2404 in the bandwidths where they're their best.

    Hi,
I think that 2245 can be used up to 80-100Hz, but 2445 I would suggest to use over 1200Hz, may be up to 8-9kHz, and over 8kHz 2405 (or two 2402) would be my suggestion.
I have no experience with 2118, but 2123 or 2202 up to 1.2kHz would be my favorite.

    Regards
    Ivica
