    Foam replacement in CD's

Does anyone inspect and replace the foam pad inside the rear cap on their compression drivers other than when replacing the diaphragm? I don't know the sonic benefit as only replace on blown drivers. Every 242x I've pulled apart the foam turned to dust when touched. The felt pad under was fine. I replaced with 4.75" diameter adhesive-back 1/4" open cell foam obtained locally.

I'm Late to this thread, but I wonder the same I wonder if the pros here can chime in. I have a LE85 that the foam is deteriorating, I wonder what is best Foam or Felt. And I have one that has red seals intact and I bet the foam is bad also.
