Best place to list items for sale ??

Hi all, i have put a listing in the Marketplace forum for a pair of Altec Lansing Model 19's but i was wondering what the opinions are as to where the best place is to list items like this? Any particular Forums? Is EBAY the best place to go? I dont even know how i would go about shipping something of this size and weight? You should probably list them on your local Craigslist - that'd be a local sale so no shipping issues there.

One issue is those are heck-of-a-large speakers to deal with.
Its not like you can take Model 19ths to the UPS store and have them wrap and ship them for you.
You'd need a regular furniture mover to do them justice.

Using Ebay is up to you - but its a worldwide site and figuring out how you'll ship is part of the deal with that marketplace.

I do have them listed on my local craigslist, but i live in northern Minnesota in a very rural area. Im sure if i lived in LA, Memphis, New York, Nashville...places like that these would do well on craigslist and probably sell fast. But in Rural MN, not too many farmers invest a lot of money in speakers. LOL. Im thinking i would like to get around $2250 for them. Im not sure if that is totally out line or not. I have seen two other pair go on ebay for $2k and $2375 i think it was. Neither of them had the grilles or the glass tops. And i spoke with another person that claimed a buyer in Japan offered $3k for his pair but he didnt want to deal with international shipping so he turned it down. i was hoping that i could find someone that was withing a couple states of me and i could just meet them half way in between or something. Really what i like to do is keep them but i ended up investing too much into them to get them working and nice again that i dont think i can afford to keep them. I will look into that cratters and freighters, thanks for that link.

I use USAudiomart and Audiogon and I ship with uship.com. Around $2000 for a really nice pair seems about right.

I have used Craters & Freighters a few times, and they are excellent, but expensive - probably not worth it for your speakers, as I imagine they would probably charge $1,800 to crate them and ship them across country. If someone wants them bad enough, maybe, but 19's aren't all that rare. If you want to get the most money for them, take good, closeup pictures of them against a backdrop, find someone local who can crate them for you, then put them on Ebay with the willingness to ship worldwide. It will probably take a day of your time to photograph, list, get shipping quotes for Ebay tire kickers etc, but you may get your asking price or a little more.

Checked with craters and frighters....they have nobody in Minnesota anymore. So there goes that.

When using Audiogon, do you pay the listing fee up front or at after the sale? i have never used them to buy or sell but i do belong to the forum. How do they work their billing?

They have a few payment options. Audiogon is very reasonable, but is better for buyers than sellers if your goal is highest sell price possible. They tend to have better gear and lower prices than eBay. I like Audiogon as a buyer or seller as the people are usually easier to deal with.

Of course getting a good price is important to me, but really i am interested in getting these (Altec Lansing Model 19) into the hands of someone that is going to appreciate them. I had a local offer 1900 that i was about to take until i realized it was a group of college frat kids that pooled their money together to get them for the frat house. I in no way want these things to ever be sitting with a keg on top of them and have kids stage diving off of them. So i sent that deal to the dumper. I am also trying to avoid having to have crates made up to ship them overseas, which through my research is the place to sell if the most out of them. Normally i would have a problem with this but i no longer have access to space or tools to cut up plywood and build crates. Being physically limited now also makes contructing crates something that would pose a huge challenge for me.

I took a look and its about 1400 road miles between us -
and that's just a bit too far a road trip for me!

Im not above loading them up and taking a drive myself. Would depend on where the final price fell. There is a fellow that is about 300 miles away that would like them and has said he could offer a price that i am fine with taking, but he wouldnt commit without listening to them first, which is understandable, but he is unwilling to drive the distance so its a no go unless i want to load them up and drive down to him and risk him not buying them. Being in Northern Minnesota is a hindrance with things like this as not many rural country boy farmer types think to much of investing this kind of money in speakers. The potential buyer base is somewhat limited around here. I would love to just keep them but i am living in a small one room apartment now due to some physical mobility issues and they are just too big.
