    2440 throat color and material?

I have been offered two 2440 drivers as it seems with 2441 diaphragms. But on the pictures I received (taken from the side, so not looking in the throat) one throat is black and the other is silver. As you know from a picture it is difficult to judge, but does anyone know if there were silver colored throats? Or does silver mean that the throat has been taken out and in fact only one of the two drivers still has its throat?

That might not be silver,,The black throat being SHINEY would reflect the FLASH giving the appearence of silver..

Could be, but they are standing side by side. And the seller has confirmed that one "has a silver throat" but he doesn't see much difference between them, although I don't know of course what his level of "much difference" is.

There was a thread here a year or two past where someone demagged and disassembled a 2440 with a broken throat, machined one or more from aluminum and reassembled and remagged it. I think he was somewhere near you.
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

    changeover

the very first generation 2445's used the leftover bakelite throats (modified?) from the last production run of 2441's. I happened to purchase 24 drivers/horns from an amphitheater upgrade and noticed.

however it's unlikely that the 2445 metal throat would retrofit into a 2440 so it looks like a custom machine shop project.

Refurbishing a pair of 2440. 2440 throats are bakelite, check that they are not broken. 2441 throats are aluminium, check if the other driver is 2441.
