    4430 production dates

I have a pair of JBL 4430's and was wondering if I could tell the production date by the serial #s. All I have is a # on the back of the crossovers 326951 and 281983.

We don't have enough registrations with dates to give you an answer.

Not exactly what you're asking for but the JBL Studio Monitor Reference Chart matrix shows 4430 (early) last year produced as 1998, and 4430 (presumably "later") last year produced as 1999.

Why would you need dates more exact than that?

I'm just trying to determine the exact year my 4430's were built, the woofers do not have the plate on the back that gives a serial # so I imagine they were repaired before. I have not removed the horns yet to check them for serial #s. I do not see any stamp on the back edge of the cabinet like some JBL's.

It's not unusual for the LF drivers to not have plates. Some have the model number stenciled on them in white, some have stickers on the cones, others have plates. Just like some have the magnet "tires' and some don't (replacement parts versus original?).

If they were re-coned by a legit JBL repair facility they'll often have a chalk-marked date on the cone.
