    Remagnetization process ?

    Hello,
I need to know the remagnetization procedure for some Altec 416,414... and 806,802...AlniCo speakers. Do we have to put only the small AlniCo core in the machine or the full motor?
    Many thanks,
    Jean-paul

I don't know these drivers, but when the magent is charged it will bond very hard to the surrounding metal. You will not be able to align the magnet when charged. Therefore you need to put the whole driver into the machine.

That is correct, you place the entire driver/motor into the magnetic field of the regaussing machine.

I recently remagetized a pair of JBL 2440, Refurbishing a pair of 2440 . I used paper shims for the magnetic gap, and had tightenend all screws befor magnetization. This was a mistake. Paper is too weak. Now my magnetic gap is uneven.

Use brass or some other non magnetic material as shims. Do not tighten the screws holding the driver together.

After magentization measure the flux in the gap. If charging pulse is too weak or too strong you will not meet specified flux. You need to adjust the emitted charge to achieve maximum flux in the driver.

Alignment with shims is only necessary when the magnet structure has been shifted. You could check the size of the magentic gap before remagentization.
