    Finding the birthplace of JBL.

Okay, I've lost it. On my way home from a doctor's visit for new baby I realized I was probably near where Lansing's avocado farm was. I took a mile detour to the intersection of Copper Drive and Melrose. From what I found I think it is in what is Vista today and not San Marcos. I found the assessor's map and sent it to a title company to search for the records showing ownership in 1948 by James Martini, James Lansing and or Glenda Lansing. I will take a picture of the intersection tomorrow and post it. Now who is going to make a plaque for me to post there?

    We found it.

Our crack staff at the title company found it! I will post the documents. Summary:
    recorded July 3, 1945
    Albert Rusich to
James B. Lansing and Glenna P. Lansing
Husband and wife as joint tenants

It is located at Melrose and Copper Dr. in Vista CA.

Google has street view of the intersection, but I can't copy it here. The link just shows Vista, CA

    Melrose and Copper

well, depending on the corner, one of two parking lots, a dirt lot, or a small house.

Still fun. I had relatives that lived "there", probably about that time (or a bit before).
Still have streets named for them (about 7mi away in San Marcos, proper) .

... so I feel slightly akin.

Well Tijuana is closer to there than San Fernando Valley is. Too bad he didn't just start in Tijuana in the first place.

If he had, would we have to pronounce it Hay. B. L.?
If we knew what the hell we were doing, we wouldn't call it research would we.

The Vista property was a rental that the family took out for a year before buying the San Marcos parcel on June 5, 1946. I'm not sure exactly where the Vista rental property was located, but the link below illustrates that are no buildings that existed in 1945 in the vicinity of Copper and Melrose that remain today.

Details on the location of the San Marcos ranch can be found here:
