Could a high end amplifier be built to run off a large battery? No AC to switch to DC

Have always wondered if a large high end amplifier could be made to run off a large battery,

I dont know what the rail voltages are for most amps, but I would think some large deep cycle batterys could be wired up to the proper voltage.

I am not thinking of doing this, just more curious why it has not been done, considering some of the crazy things audiophiles spend money on.

A system could do away with AC power conditioners, amp power transformer, large capacitor banks, etc. Charge up the battery bank when not in use, and enjoy pure DC bliss until the battery goes low.

If a person wanted to go off the deep end, a forklift type battery would run anything for quite some time.
