I do not see why they could not distribute the studios Monitors in Europe, Everest and K2 are much more and it sells!

    K2

these will retail pretty close to the new K2 9900 . Harmon Europe wont under cut themselves by selling
pretty much the same components ,hence sound, for much less than the new K2 ..... would you ?

The S9900 uses the 045BE while this new monitor uses the 045TI (roughly half the cost). The S9900 uses the 1500AL-1 while this new monitor uses a "cloth surround version of the 1500FE" (roughly half the cost). This new monitor has more bottom end than the S9900 as measured at JBL. The cloth surround worked out very well.

    S9900
    3.4 cu ft
    F6 50 Hz Anechoic, 34 Hz 2Pi
    F3 60 Hz Anechoic, 50 Hz 2 Pi

    New Monitor
    4.2 cu ft
    F6 32 Hz Anechoic 28 Hz 2Pi
    F3 38 Hz Anechoic 32 Hz 2 Pi

When I have time to draw the networks up in LEAP I'll do so and post them. The S9900 still uses a battery to bias some of the capacitors as well as diodes whereas the new studio monitor is all diodes.

    Thanks for the facts !

    Cheers 4313b,

I still think they'll retail here in Europe for about 20 k- euro per pair.

I'll have to get to the Munich show and have a listen .

I did not know "diodes" were being used in crossovers!

Could you elaborate further at all?

Sure. Here are the document schematics.

The K2-S9900 is using the diode on the low pass but retains the battery on the high pass just in case people want to bi-amp it. There usually isn't enough juice to the high pass to bias the capacitors in bi-amp mode, hence the battery.

    Thanks for sharing that!

I guess I never thought of using the voltage going to the LF driver to be the power source for the CC circuit.

    Very innovative!

    Thanks, Ron

It's quite clever indeed! Though those of us using high-efficiency systems at home would never manage to actually get a stable bias- think I'll stick with batteries.

Need more than milliwatts to generate bias voltage

My 100 db/watt system runs approx 1 watt/chnl on peaks, most of the time loafing around 400 - 600 mW chnl!
