New units for 813B

The bass units in my 813B need a re-cone the rubber surround is perishing.
Parts are proving difficult to get for the unit here in the UK I understand is a 2215H with a square magnet assembly.
Details on Bass unit:

Urei 800W
Serial Number 701-20
Date 12/7/83
Number on cone 4883
Is there a modern unit that could be substituted or to keep the speakers balance should I continue to try and get the unit re-coned?
Is it worthwhile to have the old capacitors replaced in the crossover As well?
Just purchased a Musical Fidelity KW 550 amp so I should be able to hear the difference.

The JBL 2215H was used in the 813C. I doubt your speakers use that woofer.

When you say square, do you mean like the square magnet on the first woofer below or the squared edge of the second woofer compared to the rounded edge of the final woofer?

I assume you mean square like the first woofer. This is a woofer built by Eminence. The 813B used a custom Eminence driver. They sold a lot of these speakers, so hopefully someone knows what is required to repair them.

Mr. Widget is correct. The 813b helper woofer was an OEM Eminence driver.

I would just look into reconing the existinf drivers you have, Although I was able to come up with a couple of pairs without too much effort.

They are out there. Be aware that the original 813 and 813A series used an 800 driver that looked identical but it had a dual 4ohm voice coil instead of the single 8 ohm voice coil of the 800w. I think that's correct, although one of the experts here might need to correct me on that.

Yes Mr Widget you are right its the first one with the square magnet.
Anyone reconed one of these? If so what should I order?
Any modern equivalents or would that ruin the sound?

Hi David,

If the only problem is the surround you can have just that replaced. There are dozens of companies over here and probably several in the UK that specialize in that. Or you might be able to ship it to Eminence for repair.

Seems this unit has a Alnico magnet? I understand these tend to loose there
power over time anyone know any more?

Nope... that is a ferrite mag.

I will just get the foam surround sorted.

I take its worthwhile getting the crossovers updated with new capacitors?
