    2205 w/2225 recone

I recently purchases two 2205 (AlNiCo) drivers with 2225 recone kits installed. I would like to tune the 1X15 boxes that I have for them. Can I still use the data for the 2205? ....or how does the 2225 kit affect the parameters?

Are you sure you have the model numbers correct; I thought the 2205 is a 12" driver and the 2225 is a 15" driver? If you did not have them reconed by an authorized JBL service center, you probably did not get OEM parts and that is very bad.

Tuning a box is mostly getting the demension size and port size correct; there is not much you can do if your existing box is too small or too big exept to build another box.

Some drivers can be reconed with different kits so, for example, you might be able to recone a 2240 basket with a 2245 kit (e.g., a 2245 cone, VC surround, etc.) In this example, the old 2240 driver would become a 2245 and would play best in a box tuned for a 2245.

Do a search and find the recommended tuned box sizes for JBL drivers to see if the box you have is suitible for the drivers you are using.

If you did not use OEM re-cone kits - all bets are off.

    Tune for 2225

The 2225 is the recone kit for the 2205 whose recone kit is NLA.

    2205 is a 15" driver.

I hope my info is correct!

Yes the 2205 is a 15",,,(i have four), But the present 2225 or 2226 are higher in free air resonence than the early 2205,,, they will not perform the same

    Thanks for the info!

I got these speakers from an authorized JBL dealer who said they were authentic JBL kits.

I gained my love for JBLs as a bass player, unfortunately blowing up quite a few before I learned how to listen.

After that I had a partnership in a concert PA system (Claire Bros S10 cabinets) that included as many JBLs as I could afford.

For a while I owned a pair of L100s and am now trying to piece together a stereo system from what components I have from some Cabaret cabinets, these 2205s and a pair of 2420 drivers w/2301 horn/lense. I'm powering them with an early Sansui preamp, Marrantz and Hafler solid state amps.

I don't think I'll ever own some of the better stuff for financial reasons but I can't get the sound of JBLs out of my head.

The 2205/2225 baskets are similar. You should now be using the 2225 parameters for all computations.

That's good to know. I picked up what I thought was a 2220H in a blind sale, but it has a ribbed cone similar to my 2225's and has 2225 in white pencil on the back of the cone. I didn't see it beforehand but I know the guy, and he knows little about JBL drivers and grabbed it as it was cheap. I still have a use for it as a 2225, so no loss.
