    C 34 Enclosure info please

Hello and thank you for the site.

I’m searching for any information on my C34 speakers which I have had for many years.

I have two of these. One is a factory built, and the other is a kit or homemade.
I picked these up 30+ years ago when I owned a small town sound company. I used almost all JBL drivers, I could always get more bang for the watt. We pushed our horns with old MacIntosh tube amps. They sounded great, and could you still get them for $20-$50. I can’t remember everything, but I know we had a good time!

The kit or homemade C34 was stripped of components, belt sanded, painted flat black and converted to a bass bin with a different driver. Still have it, and I’ll probably keep it forever as it still comes in handy.

The factory C34 was too beautiful to disturb. I tested it, loved it, and promptly put it away in storage.

Now 30 years later, I would like to learn more about it. I’m either going to use it in my studio somehow, or put it up for adoption. It should be used and enjoyed. I don’t think it’s ever been opened up. It must have a D 130, and a one or two inch “honker” style horn with some sort of additional lens?

I found a pic of a C34 on the forum, but will have to get back here with a URL for it.
It’s safe to say the one I have is in better shape. Original brown grille cloth is still tight, wood is good. My logo is not pinned to the grille, but painted in gold on the top center face. This detail may help determine mfg. date?

Any insight would be very helpful to me.

    Thank you,

    Dan

    Pictures??? I'm betting on a 130A, not a D130.

I'm sure you've already seen bits about the C34 in this site's library, such as this: http://www.lansingheritage.org/image...1955/page3.jpg

This one's a little harder to stumble upon: http://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/plans/C34.htm

The discussion in the thread containing this post might help: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...82&postcount=2

    Does this look like yours?

The box is in a dark 40ft shipping container across the ranch about a mile from the house so no pictures till tomorrow. If memory serves me, The logo in the pic you posted is similar, but myne has "JBL" in the circle instead of just "L" And I dont think is has "Signature" printed next to it. It's in good shape and I doubt if any part of the stensiling has rubbed off. I think I'll bring the unit down to the house tomorrow, much to my wife's dismay <<< She has never cared much for large audio gear, and I've had so much of it.
Thanks for the great start, and I'll be back with some pictures.

Yeah, the "L" is the earlier version dated in the thread at 1956. Yours must be later.

Tell you're wife you're doing this for educational purposes!

I have not told her yet, better to be forgiven later in this case.
It will be fun to ring it out, it's been a long long time. Do you know these first hand? If you do, what's your take on these when they are working properly? I remember little except that it was very efficent. Also I was curious about when production ended. I had always thought these were used in mono hi fi systems only.

    Thanks
    Dan
