    Jbl S4600

Has anyone here heard these speakers? I assume these would be an upgrade to the s2600 speakers-not that I am complaining. How would one go about buying a new pair of these?

I know shipping would be invovled but where are they manufactured?

    Thanks.

Yes, on 8-9-09 to be specific, S4600, 4338, TS8000, K29900, Everest D66000, in that order, in Japan last month. Posted a thread about it here

I've never heard the S2600, but can say the S4600 was flat out awesome, though slightly bested by the 4338, regardless of it's ugliness , a good bit better than the TS8000, and well, on a different plane than the Everest which basically captures your soul when perfectly setup as the ones I listed to were. If I had access to purchase the S4600, I'd probably already have paid the 10K for the set, they were that good, and a beautiful, powerful looking speaker EASILY worth the 1/3rd of the K2 pricetag

You saw them but was unable to buy them? Are they ONLY sold in Japan? 10K? I thought I saw something when I 'goggled' them that the price was 4k which, I assume, is incorrect.

My own opinion is that I like a speaker system that does not need subs. In fact, in my home, the S4600 would be perfect yet I am content, right now, with the S2600's. Some time.....

By the way, are the S4600 a sealed cabinet?

    I've never heard the S2600,
I should have given you a listen when you were at my house. Ah well, we were focusing on other things.
    Out.

I saw them, listened to them, but did not buy them, correct. not that I was ready to slap the credit card down right then and there, but did ask about shipment to the US which they said was not offered, so you'd have to purchase and arrange your own shipping. Being that I had one day there on business, and had no idea I'd even run into the set when the day began, probably not a good "impulse buy", wouldn't you agree??

You'll see here off the JBLJapan homepage (which I "goggled") that the retail price is 460K Yen each, or 5,044.82, about 10K per pair

I noted that the S4800 which had a 15" woofer and was 5.8K each have disappeared from the site

While auditioning the L7, I recall a brief listen of the PT800 & XPL200 (which I recall being disappointed compared the L7), and seeing the SVA1800(?) unhooked on the side. Yup, too bad we didn't try out the 2600, have always wanted to hear the differences in the way you've described the SVA series compared to the S2600/3100, I think it was SVAs "scramble your brains", and the S series having a smoother more musical response??......maybe another time, got any more PT800s for sale? (the carrying them into Magnolia to see "Skip" was probably the funniest thing I read on this forum, and what really got my interest in later generation JBL going)
