neophyte JBL question: 275 drivers/H5040 horns

For the record, I am more of an Altec guy than a JBL guy, but... the Fates have dropped a pair of 16 ohm JBL compression drivers and right-angle HF horns into my lap (almost literally). The drivers are JBL 275 and one of the two horns has a sticker on it labeling them "H5040". S/Ns of the drivers are 253 and 878.

I determined last night that both drivers are in working condition and (not surprisingly) efficient as all getout.

Other than a couple of catalog scans on this site (which indicate that this driver/horn was principally used in the "Ranger Metregon") I know next to nothing about these.

Any insight, thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc. are greatly appreciated/gratefully received.

(I can post photos if anyone's interested)

    Thanks!

Do they look like the picture in this post?

Welcome to the forum, we also have Altec members here.

Yes they were designed for the Metregon this is why they have the bend. The 275 is very good HF driver.

Found these on the swap pile at our town dump (more correctly, transfer station) last weekend.

Also this rather scroungy pair of what I assume are LE8s of some variety... in DIY boxes that look like something I myself might have built. :-)

Surrounds are stiff and somewhat battered. Actually the one that doesn't have a macroscopic divot out of its surround sounds pretty fine. (both drivers do work).

Oh, and a pair of N-600 (IIRC) crossovers.

    I love the dump...

I figured I'd bump this post one more time to see if anyone could tell me any more about the compression drivers?

    Thanks!

    I'm learning too

I recently aquired a set of jbl metregon speakers they are a three way system from a metregon cab. evidently the two way metregon had the h5040 bent horn and the three way metregon had the h5041 bent horn, the basic diference is the h5040 has a 1" throat and the h5041 is a 2"throat. Both are very unique but jbldog wrote that the h5041's are very rare becouse there wasn't many used in that configureation.I too would like to find out more, especially the value. I have pics if any one is interested.
