Red face L36 restoration Help/Info needed

    Hi all,

I need a crossover schmatic and suggested parts for my L36 restoration project

Years ago I had to replace the mid and hf drivers and went off market.

Now years later I want to restore to original or better using JBL only parts

The mid is a le-5-6 and don't have a part number for the hf driver.

Can some one suggest original or better parts for the restoration?

    thanks

You're new here, but you'll soon learn this site has an excellent library, a simple search function, and technical links pages.

    I'll get you started: http://manuals.harman.com/JBL/HOM/Te...t/L36%20ts.pdf
". . . as you have no doubt noticed, no one told the 4345 that it can't work correctly so it does anyway."—Greg Timbers

It does list the 035Ti as a replacement option, and in my experience it's a better sounding driver than the LE 25. Not sure if you'd be served better with x-over changes if you go that route. There's cosmetic issues with that approach, though, the LE 25 is on a square plate and the 035Ti is on a round plate.

I haven't heard complaints about the LE 5 series in these applications at all. I've got 8 of them in play here & they're not a weak link in any of the systems, to my ears.

ok, but had to ask. Somewhere I read that the le-5 series are "acoustically" equivalent. But I doubt that comment. although looking at "ebay" samples they appear physically identical.

Some of the LE5 series are functional equivalents & can be mixed/matched to a degree with only cosmetic differences...that set (-6 and -9) ain't one of them- there's a difference in efficiency, among other things.

I found a big difference between the 5-2 and the 5-9 I needed in my 4411. The 5-2 was really hard on the ears, the 5-9 smoother and suited for the crossover. Better mids are the 104 series and they bolt in. If you are going to use the 035, the 104 mid matches it best.
Why buy used when you can build your own?
