    2426J from 1.8k to 8k load problem?

Hi all, need some assistance re load versus impedance versus frequency.

I want to use one of my monarchy amps to drive a pair of 16ohm JBL 2426J's.

The Monarchy is Class A and 45 watts a channel at 8ohm's. With a 16ohm load my amp would produce about 22 watts a channel.

For you guru types. Is this ok to use at moderate levels or am I going to overdrive the output circuits on the amp?

It would appear the 2426J loads at around 11-12 ohms at this frequency range.
    Thanks a bunch.

    Ken

    Hi Ken

Running a relatively light load of 11-12 ohms is not going to have any detrimental effects on that amp. And you should expect the 2426J to be pulling about 30 to 35 watts a channel. But, if you are still concerned, you could add a 24 ohm resistor across the 2426J voice coil and that would lower the impedance to 8 ohms. I might add that a 24 ohm resistor is going to add some damping to the driver. Which could actually improve the sound of the 2426J, I happen to use a 20 ohm damping resistor on my 2446h drivers and it does make a difference.

    I Ain't No Guru, But...

    The 2426H/J is 110 dB SPL @ 1 Watt @ 1 meter.

At 22 Watts, you have more than 12 dB over that, remembering that you lose 3dB every time you double the distance from 1 meter. Also remembering that you want some headroom to prevent clipping.

It depends on how big the room is and what you are trying to accomplish.

    Hello Ken

Are you using an active crossover?? You can have over 10db of padding in a passive network for a compression driver. That can tip the balance.
