    Ti diaphragm life

OK, so I purchased a pair of 2445 recently on Fleabay from a 1988 vintage and I swapped out the frams using new JBL OEM units.

It looks like the old frams had some minor heat damage on the coils in two places near the position of the + and - connectors.

Is this fairly typical for 20 year old diaphragms? Do Ti frams need replacement with age or do they not "wear" like aluminum?

Each driver from this older set had red wax seals on the screw covers so I assume the drivers had not been opened and that they were probably used in a DJ application.

I'm glad I replaced the frams but I wonder if this is necessary in the future.

Apparently, this was not a very popular thread.

Question: Is there any general guidance on when to re-build HF compression drivers with factory Ti frams?

    Thx....

-totally- depends on their use, and how AR you are.

At home, you might never have to replace them.
In a studio, you might want to replace them on a regular schedule.
In a live support situation, you might want to check after each show...

Your not getting many answers for the simple fact there are no easy ones. It all depends on use. Titanium is much superior to Aluminum but it is not immune from fatique and eventual failure. Have a read and see what you think.
