    4612???

I put a pair of JBL 4612 speakers on layaway at the local pawnshop today.
They don't appear to be cabaret models-they are in veneer cabinets. They do have the same driver layout, 2 8" woofs and 1 lil butt cheek tweet-are these the home version?
They sound really good however they are a tad bass shy.

    Thanks,

Actualy they are not bad speakers. They are some real bargains when it comes to the market. They look cheezy with the formica wood veneers but they are great performers for the buck! I'd rather have a pair of those for listening then a pair of 4410s or 4412s.

The veneered models are the 4612OK, and while all the components are the same as the black duraflex stage version 4612B, the crossovers in the 4612OK are not adjustable, (the HF is adjustable in the black 4612 versions), - they're set at fixed points in the 4612OK. And take a good look at the crossover schematics- the two 8" speakers are staggered - they don't operate in parallel - one 8" driver is for additional LF only below certain frequencies. Both versions operate this way.

I have a pair of 4612OK, plus an empty set of black 4612B cabinets that I plan on moving everything to, then ditching the empty 4612OK cabinets. Right now, though, I'm still short one of the adjustable 4612B crossovers, which is the only thing holding up the change for me.

Thanks for the info fellas-I appreciate it.
They are in very good condition and I picked them up for only 100 bucks- a deal I think. I actually like their gameroom wall look, I was surprised at how heavy they are for their size.
