    Jbl 2226h

    Hello JBL Fans.

    I need at little help.

Ive got two 15 inch JBL 2226H low frequency drivers.

Im going to make a cabinet for them. What would you recommend for cabinet size ? and is it possible for that driver to play in a closed cabinet ?
I dont need it to play the lowest lowest bass just 40 50 hz would be fine im going to cross it at 300-400 hz to a two ways speaker.

    Thanks

This is a simple cabinet for two 2226's and it works great.

    Hey, Japer,

You might consider using the JBL 4508 enclosure, or making yourself a pair of them. They are setup for several different JBL 15" transducers, including the 2225J, which, I believe, is the predecessor to your 2226H. The impedance will be different, as your's is 8 ohms, and the J speakers are 16 ohms. But, the box should give you usable bass down to 35HZ. Just a thought... Good luck on your project, and God Bless!

Two 2226H crossed at 300+ Hz implies 1/cabinet, which is 4507:

    Also sold complete as 4647:

    Hello Japer

For good response down to 40-50Hz you really need to look at a vented enclosure. As I recall 40 Hz is the typical enclosure tuning using 100ish litres. I suppose if you really want sealed then you could use EQ.....but a lot of EQ would be required and it could degrade the performance you may be trying to achieve with a sealed enclosure.

    Thank you all.

Right now I think my cabinets will be around 160-185 liters. lets say 180 liter then. Anyone that could tell if that would work and how low it would go in a closed cabinet. I will go vented if necessary but just have to know all my options to decide and besides that the times I´ve heard a closed construction I´ve (alommost) always liked the bass better than vented boxes. What about the 2226h is it build for closed cabinet use.

    Hey, Japer,

Or, as a fine person here at LH suggested to me, when I was asking similar questions, check out this site:

    http://www.linearteam.dk/default.aspx?pageid=newdriver

I've been doing that and have had a ball "seeing" how things might work, if I did this, or did that. I'm sure that WinISD is a much better resource. But this place is a fine way to get started, and it won't cost you a cent. Have fun, and God Bless!

OK - I just did a quick sim in BB6 Pro with a 6 cu. ft. (~170L), cabinet both closed and ported, one speaker and two.

The red line is 1-speaker closed and orange is ported at 32hz.

The yellow line is 2-speaker closed and green is ported at 42 hz.

4-5 ft vented to 35-40 is a pretty typical usage. It's what I'm working on for my bass cabs, which will be with the 2226H or the Eminence Magnum 15HO, depending on which I prefer. Performance-wise, they're very similar drivers, so it may wind up being a purely aesthetic decision, in which case, the magnum wins, with its 4" diameter phase plug.

Not uncommon to do so, particularly if you're going 2-way. I'd prefer to see it used well-below where things get ugly- about 1k-1200. This means pure woofer use (300-400Hz XO) and a dedicated midrange.

But you CAN run it at 750, and it's not horrid there by any stretch. But a 15" isn't a midrange driver, except in the highest of high-power installs, or very very specific circumstances and drivers.

If you truly need a 15" that can go high, the acoustic elegance product does very well higher up, and their flagship TD15M w/apollo enjoys a stellar reputation.

    Yes i'm planning a 2-way speaker with a Altec 909-8A and a 811B horn.
But maybe i don't need to push the 2226H so high. I will be using a FDS366 for active filtering.

I am testing the 909+811B put onto an Altec A8 with N801 filter. So i use only the 416 of the A8.

Do you have a link about this one ?
