    075 Diaphragm replacement & Gap

My father-in law's 075 tweeters need the diaphragms replaced. I contacted JBL and was told that he could use the 2405 diaphragm if the phase plug was milled down to create the proper air gap. My question is what is the proper air gap? And where can I have these phase plugs sent to be milled to the proper size? Or can they be replaced by another properly sized phase plug? JBL wont help with this repair nor would they recommend anyone to help us. Any idea's forum members?

    hello Jimbo,

I think this is a false information. Read this tread (Particularly post 122)

    http://www.audioheritage.org/vbullet...ead.php?t=6368

All ring radiator (075,076,077, 2402,2403,2405) dias are interchangeable without mechanical modification.

    regards

Indeterminate. The proper diaphgram for 075 is D8R075.

Why are we putting D16R2405 in 075? We KNOW they are different diaphragms.

Trying to get extended UHF response out of 075? Willing to give up power handling and/or frequency response at the low end?

Look at 2403, 2404 and 2404H-1; there are two different conical phase plugs.

The info may be accurate, based upon different diaphragm excursions....

JBL does not make the proper diaphragms for the 075, You have to use the 2405 and make modifications to achieve the proper air gap. At least this is what I was told my a tech at JBL.

    name him

It sounds like you took 30 minutes of questions / answers / information and condensed it into a single sentence and misunderstood him.

Many of us here know these "techs" personally, what is his name?? And how about posting a picture of this special model that needs this kind of work done to it?

According to the Jan. 24, 2008 pricelist, JBL still has the D8R075 diaphragms available. http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Tra...rts%20List.pdf You should also check with a couple JBL service centers...

    I have question:

why not use a 2405 diaphram in a 2402 bullet?

    What is the harm?

    Is this wrong?

If you are using the "2405bullet" for 8k and up, how can the excursion be a problem?

I have both D8R075 & D16R2405 phrams here, and see no difference in coil or ....

    Signed,
    Confused.

2402 is typically used because it plays low.

Beamwidth is gettin' kind of narrow above 10 kHz:

    http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2402.pdf

2405's not much better in the vertical, tho:

    http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2405.pdf

    For VHF beamwidth, it's 2404:

    http://www.jblpro.com/pages/pub/components/2404.pdf

We measured them, and they actually do that....

Okay still need some help with this, Hamilton was kind enough to offer a diaphragm he has, the only problem with that, is that I need a 16ohm diaphragm and he has an 8ohm. So if someone has 1 or better yet 2 16ohm 075 diaphragms to sell me I would be grateful.

    search then ask

do a search on this site for the answer to the 8-16 ohm question. it has been posted dozens of times on very detailed threads with graphs, etc.

short answer, there is NO difference between the 8 and 16 - it was purely a marketing decision.
