Went on safari today and brought nothing home ( to PhilCCA's joy) - did pay for a large pair of CV's that wudnt fit in the car, so gotta pick them up with the truck Saturday.

    Fangio-

As you know the L166 & 4412 are very similar. 3 ways- same layout.

my impressions: 066 hf has a bit wider dispersion and sounds just as good as the 035tia....mids are about the same.

I think the L166's 122a-1 sounds better to me, a little tighter, and maybe goes a little lower. The 4412 seems to image a little better.

The cabinets are a tossup. The twist locks on the L166's stink, will be replaced today.

Grills are a subjective thing. I like the retro 3D grills of the Horizons.

IF they were the same price, and you asked me 100 times....I would go with the L166 51 times and the 4412 48 times and 1 = I dunno.

Funny thing is.....I sold the 4412's for EXACTLY 100 times (100X) the amount that I paid for the L166's.

Hauled home the big CV's today...suckas are at least 90 lbs. The 15 is a cast basket. Model is D-9.
Dont know whether to part them out or attempt a rebuild - dont think they are worth much, even if perfect condition.

Thanks for your concern, Storm...In America, at Christmas time we become more involved with family ties than menial pursuits such as purchasing more speakers (unless a great deal comes along... )

    M+K

If memory serves me that M+K might well be a keeper , they made some tasty kit in the day. Note the L300 styling . Wolfy you are getting better and better.

That M&K looks like my M&K V3B- I like mine a lot, it lives happily with my L110s.

I thought the sub was an L300 when it was being wheeled out on the cart.

The M&K is cleaning up nicely and the 12incher is already out for refoaming. I put power to it briefly and it was fine. Grill is even OK.

Fred- you mite be the person to answer my questions.......On the rear there is a 3 position switch...1=flat/anechoic 2=room "A" 3=room "B".

on the rear there is a graph showing FLAT as flat from 20-100hz , but there is no explanation of rooms A and B.

    do you know ?

(the veneer is getting nicer and nicer with each application of oil ..it was thirsty)

Apparently, then, yours ISN'T a V3B, mine doesn't have those markings. I'll poke around, but knowing your exact model # and age would help.
