    jbl lancer99 s99 speakers question

I have a pair of lancer S99's serial # 12181 & 12182 respectively this seems low or incorrect to me as I have never seen a serial # on these below 100000.

Is there a dating system for these serial numbers? Two of the digits or a way of looking up when they were MFR'd?

Thanks ahead of time for the help.

I'm sure the _real_ JBL folks can comment on whether there's a serial number catalog somewhere - seems to me that lots of that info was lost in the Northridge earthquake, though.

I tend to use the date codes on capacitors in the crossover networks as a way to get an idea of how old the speakers are. I generally assume that the speakers were assembled a few months after the caps were built.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

    David

The serial number on the one S-99 I could get to here is 97569.
