    Smile Price for Altec A7 500-8 ???

How much costs a pair of Altec A7 500-8 with original cabinets ?
The elements are 416-8c, 908-8a, horn 511b and filter 1201-8a.

How good do they sound ?

That depends. The A7 was really an auditorium/theater speaker. In a large room they can sound quite nice through the midrange, as in lifelike believability, but, dont have much deep bass. In a small room, they may not be as nice sounding, horns need a bit of room to work well. The 416 woofers have a nice LF sound.

The 511 HF horn will do nicely in the midrange, but wont give you an extended top end.

They are very efficient, though, and wont require much power, and with the addition of subs and tweeters, and EQ, you could come up with a system that sounds lifesize, although, not accurate.

Mats---Scott summed it well. The A7 does the range from 100 to 10,000hz about as well as can be done IMO. Midrange reproduction is second only to that of the A5. But the bass response is shelved and for robust bass you need to augment with a subwoofer. And highs are soft but in compensation they are smooth and lacking in sklisaw coloration.

I think that for home use most people would do better with a Model Nineteen or a DIY speaker along the lines of a Nineteen.

    My experiences and opinions.

    so, theoretically....

would adding another lower mid cabinet (say an 816a for example) extend the lower freq downward as the woofers would "couple," no?

I don't think so. Just get louder not lower. When I used A5s I augmented the bass below 100hz with a pair of JBL 4648s. They got down to 25hz flat with wall placement and 6db EQ at 30hz.
