Baden Powell was an extraordinarily gifted musician. I had not heard this 1966 collaboration before. I first list the entire album, then the single song that got my attention first. It begins at 12:45 on the full album.

A different kind of "drum solo", on a solo drum.

It is well known that musical talent runs in families. I might add it seems to me to run especially deep in Celtic cultures. This art is well established in Ireland. See the second video for a mature example.

    From Oahu, much talent. Taimane.

Tiny Desk Concert, March 6, 2020. Must have been shortly before lockdown. Four piece plus a dancer.

Ani DiFranco Tiny Desk (Home) Concert May 10 2021

I consider her one of our musical treasures. Far enough out of the mainstream to need a telescope. She has said in an interview that she has regretted not using professional producers, "Sorry, Song", but I for one can definitely live with what she does.

    Cande y Paulo

Tiny Desk Concert, in a studio, a grand studio, not a home. An Argentine duo, plus one here, of stellar talent and quiet persuasion. New to me but they have been around for a long time. For you old school fans.

Correction, this is an empty theater, not a studio.

    Emily Remler 1978 live recording

A gorgeous Emily Remler set from 1978. Hard to believe she was already this great at twenty or twenty-one. It appears to be at a busy event but the sound is good and Jazz Guitar's most melodic player does not disappoint. Posted a year ago, it is languishing at under 10K looks. Sound only, but a nice photo displays.

    Catherine Ashcroft

I have long considered the Uilleann Pipes to be like the pipe organ. Extreme manual dexterity and multitasking are a prerequisite to expressive playing. Upon hearing a performance it is difficult to believe it is a solo piece. There are many great musicians in the formerly Celtic lands, but a standout Uilleann artist is still uncommon. Here is one, from a 2014 appearance. Liam O'Flynn has passed, but we still have Catherine Ashcroft.

The harmonic complexity capabilities of Uilleann pipes are considerable. If you are curious of how the "regulator" keys of the chording reeds are played, they are under the same right wrist that she is already playing one of the chanters with. The instrument is capable of producing notes that have both simultaneous vibrato and tremolo, using fingering techniques.
