    Another Power Amp Problem

I'll add mine to the growing list of amp problems. One of my Phase Linear 400s just developed a problem. There is massive distortion in both channels. The music sounds like it's coming through a "Fuzz Box". There is no background noise, just distorted music. There was no warning or lead up to this. It just began the last time I turned on my system. I'm waiting for the shop manual to arrive before I tear it down. Any thoughts as to where to begin my search?

You'd probably be better off searching for a different amp....one that doesn't have the speaker frying reputation as the Flame Linear.

I didn't make that up...but you already knew that

Not a chance! I love these old amps. A 2 amp fuse in the output line is pretty effective with the DC surge problem. The quality of sound from my PL 400 is astonishing. I don't understand the critics. This setup makes me smile.

At this point I'm only using one to drive my subs. The L100s are powered with a pair of mono-blocks.
