Obviously Harman is no longer the company it was when Greg joined them in the '70s. I guess we should not be surprised by this deplorable termination of its most valuable employee.
I personally...
Could be the room. I would turn off one sub, run the pink noise through the other, check the spl from the LP.
Then turn off that sub and turn the other on. Repeat the signal through the second sub...
This is the final upgrade. I tore off the ash veneer, as it not survive the long ocean trip. Sick of looking at it anyway after 12 years. What you see now is what I call elephant skin vinyl, 1/16"...
The 1977 L212 was particle board boxes. The wrap-around grille cage was 3/8" plywood.
I don't think MDF was used until the '80s.
ATMOS is one thing I have no desire to get into. Its really about getting the LCRs placed right.
When they are right, the soundstage is huge for both music and movies.
I don't see where ATMOS will...
Did you use the stock PS XOs?
When I first opened up one of my PT800s, I could hardly believe how little insulation was used.
Nowhere near the amount used in the L212s. The more insulation placed...
I have 5 PT800s and never had a PC600 or the PS1400s.
I've been running a vertical center since '02. First a L212 (7 L212s in that system) then a PT800 (5 PT800, 2 L212(rears) in that system). Right...
With the need to accommodate toward getting a larger flat screen (right now only a 32") I decided to do a mod of one of my PT800s for center channel use. Cut a circle around the tweeter/mid to make a...
OK, the last upgrade. Took longer to do the cosmetic changes than the time aligning. Rebuilt the grilles to original wrap around style, removed the ash veneer from the top/sides and painted them red....
When they are completely done. Still rebuilding the wrap-around grilles.
The avatar is from the mid '90s as they looked with the 066s.
For 12 years I only had a face grille, being they have black...
I just time aligned my custom212s. Being they only have 8" MB the recline tilt is only 1.25". I cut out tapered wood doughnuts for mounting the 052Ti tweeters to keep them vertical.
The result is a...
2108/A112H or A
these are fantastic drivers, although can be hard to find.
So what did you do, if anything?
I would suggest replacing all the caps, using polypropylene, and adding by-pass caps and building Biased XOs.
I have personally done all that and more to my L212s.
I just saw this thread, most of two years late. Beautiful job. Did you ever sell them?
I did an upgrade to my L212s making them mirror imaged with biased networks.
I had thought of sloping back...
And if that 800 ^2 is all concrete, as are all the buildings where I live, very little power is used before it becomes too loud.
Knowing how power hungry the Revel Salon2 are, I've often wondered...
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the pic of them in the cabinet way above the floor.
Much like the L55s, the floor adds boundary reinforcement.
I used to have a K2 amp, its very good, I...
Yeah, Greg has been known to prefer identical speakers all around, especially for music. I was using 5 PT800s (never had a PC600).
But in my current setup I am only using 3 PT800s for...
Those 4429s are not that new...I saw them in Japan in Oct 2010...along with quite a few other horn systems.
A very good system made better with mirror imaged boxes, Ti tweeter, the 2105 pro midrange, Charged-Coupled XO.
I listen to those everyday.
The advantage of the small by-pass caps is they produce a more dynamic output.
I used them on my CC XOs, even though I used mid~high end main poly caps.
I just recently used some rubbing alcohol, in a spray bottle, to clean up my speakers.
Just a light spray and a soft cloth to wipe them down.
And then b/c of many moves these last three years...
Over this past decade, I've lost count how many of those PS10400 amps have gone down.
But most certainly it has a bad design flaw(s). If one or two go down is one thing...
But having dozens go...
I ordered a pair last July, and when OCS got in a new shipment they sent a pair out. And my daughter packed them in her baggage when she came down here. As I recall, the weight of the 066 is a kilo,...
Well, after 6 months of listening to the new 052Ti, I can say it is a better tweeter than the old 066. Much smoother, even cleaner HF.
I would recommend anyone still running speakers with the 066 to...
