After I built them, I spent about a week listening to one speaker with the new crossover, comparing it to the other speaker with the old crossover, adjusting for the change in volume. Both my wife...
And here's a labeled drawing of that same photo:

Here's a photo of the Murphy L100 crossover I built back in 2008. I used 7×10" pegboard.

Replacing all 4 won't cost much. Take your pick:

I removed the woofer, and easily unscrewed the old spring binding posts from inside the cabinet. On my L100s, the binding posts were mounted through small Masonite boards, roughly ¼" thick. These...
I don't think that's a good idea. The worst performing driver in the L100A was the LE5-2 midrange. Here is the frequency response of the LE5-2 in one of my old L100As, without any crossover filter....
The 1½" cone tweeters on the L100A aren't bad. The uneven response of the LE5-2 mid-range is much more of a problem.
A more recently designed DIY crossover solves most of the L100A's problems...
I'm not surprised at that.
Yes. In the Murphy crossover, all 3 drivers should be wired with the same polarity. The crossover requires that.
In the L-100A speakers I had, the woofer and tweeter...
To be sure, test each individual driver with a 1.5 volt AA battery. A driver's terminal is positive if attaching the positive end of the battery makes the cone move forward.
Tony,
I will send...
De rien :). Thank you for your efforts at making the printed circuit board. I hope someone here finds them useful.
I discussed your question with Dennis Murphy by email. He said he will have to...
Before you buy new binding posts, remove the old ones and make sure you know the diameter and length of the shaft that goes through the mounting plate. Unless you want to drill new holes, order new...
From reading this (especially the part I put in bold), it sounds to me like you are ready for the new crossover. Before I built mine, I had very much the same opinion as you.
For what its worth,...
All of the several dozen Dayton metalized poly caps I've had in my hands measured exactly as printed on the label. It didn't matter if they were 1% or 5%. As a result, I no longer buy the 1% caps....
There is little to go wrong with a tweeter in the L-100A:
With a failed tweeter, there should be no sound at all.
If you've already tried DeOxit, you've eliminated the L-pad as a problem.

Hi Wagner. Saw your question about L100As and think you might benefit from reading this old but relevant thread

Consider building a completely new crossover, as shown. Read details in this thread.

I can't comment about those Jantzen crossovers, I haven't heard them. They seem to be
very expensive.
Read this old thread where I built completely redesigned crossovers for L100As that cost...
For layout of crossover, place inductors so two don't interact with each other. Read this link and follow the general guide in the diagram at the bottom of the page. Resistors and caps can go just...
I built entirely new crossovers for my L100As, resulting in much improved sound. http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=13105
Those crackling old variable L-pads that change the...
Yes, I ordered inductor coils from Madisound because they had better prices than Parts Express, and I ordered Dayton MPP caps from PE for the same reason. I prefer PE's resistors only because they...
I have not heard an L100 with his new crossover in it. But I think it will probably work fine. I do know for certain that the redesigned crossover I posted about 2 years ago works very well. ...

If you want something that improves the sound over the original L100, redoing the original crossover, with or without bypass caps, will not do it. You really need to smooth out the...
Other than the fact that L-pads fail with time, there is no reason why you can't add them in. I personally don't think they are needed.
Thanks for that link from Parts Express. Wow $298! The...
The reason why I (and others) eliminated those adjustable L-pads is that they get oxidized and pitted with time, causing those intermittent losses you experienced. New ones will eventually suffer the...
