Hello,
I am looking for any suggestions as to how to restore my parent's old
Altec Lansing 891V speakers (1974?). It is evident
that over the years one of the woofers failed and was replaced. The
orignal woofer has a large magnet, the size of a couple of hockey
pucks. Whoever replaced the bad woofer put a far, far smaller and
obviously cheaper woofer in, and it now crackles. I swapped the
woofers and know that the original, "good" woofer still works. So... I
have to assume that after all these years it is impossible to match
the originals, though I do have the orignal part number. The actual
repair is simple, but I don't know what type of woofers to use. Can I
go to a local electronic parts store or is there a way to match the part with the cabinet?
I'd rather pay more to get the proper parts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
