Which Plate Amp for JBL 1500 sub

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for a plate amp to power a JBL 1500 sub.



How much power would I need for a room 20' by 15' room? What features are mandatory and what would be optional?



The BASH amp 500w for $200 seem very reasonably, is it any good?

Focus on what the driver can handle rather than the room. Putting a larger amp on that driver may bottom it out with little warning and no increase in output.
As for features automatic turnon and turn off are a +, remote controls are rather useless once you get it set up. Try and duplicate what features the original has,

Higher power is not always bad, just keep the driver operating within it's limits.

I've used the 500w version of this amp before... VERY impressive. We modded ours, to have a lower rumble filter frequency (comes with about 21 Hz, we changed ours to around 16 Hz), and it was capable of massive output, even down to 15 Hz.

I don't know about the SUB1500 (isn't it 4 ohms?), but I've used the 300-806 (the 500 watt) on a sub with a 2245H and an 18" passive radiator, with the amp unmodified, stock 21 Hz rumble filter... and it would literally make the windows "breathe" in the storefront here, with no sign of distortion or distress. The parametric EQ in this amp is very effective too, BTW, for that purpose... you can easily make pants legs flap about. :D

If you wind up with a 4 ohm load per cabinet, the 300-806 should be enough power for a SUB1500. If it's 8 ohms, then I'd think about the 300-808.

I haven't used the BASH amps yet, but I probably will be using them, in a set of "budget" large powered subs, using the 300 watt BASH amp, a PE Quatro 15" (Eminence-built 15", 10mm Xmax, 300/600 watt power handling), and a 2 foot cube (ie, 24"x24"x24") cabinet ported with two 4" vents per box. According to my calcs, a pair of these cabinets should be able to do 120 dB, with full-acoustic-power down to an f3 of about 23 Hz. :bouncy: It'll be a few months before this gets built, in all likelyhood...
