Guys, I've got a problem.

I can't easily continue making foam grilles with winter weather coming here in Michigan. I need a warm climate to work in as these are best made outside, so I'm thinking to move to a warmer climate - maybe west (?) but definitely south.

Does anyone know of or have a specific place they could steer me towards? It may be temporary or maybe if I like it, I'll stay there. Anyone have some extra shop space or a rental? I'm not asking for general recommendations like "Arizona" or "California". Need a specific house, shop, barn, whatever. Prefer a country location (setting) rather than city (don't like 'em!). Don't need a lot of work room or living space for that matter either.

Perhaps ideal for someone with a going business operation who might like to expand - partnership is not out of the question AND I have other products in various stages of development. Contact me for details. Thanks.

I've always kidded my northern friends about my being from the tropics of southeastern Ohio, but quite frankly, I don't think we're that much warmer than where you're at. I don't think I can help ya .... but good luck !

Well, you shot one of the theories of mine about how you make these grills- I wondered if you froze the foam before you cut it (I assume you cut it), but if you do this outside in warmer months ... I'm guessing you don't.

Still mystified in the "tropics" ...

Yes being located in Zanesville OH. you are still on the wrong side of the Hills!!!http://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/frown.gif

I have been to your town many a time and I have to admit from Dec.-Feb. you guys are doing much better than Winnipeg temperature wise, but then you guys have to deal with the ice storms?:p All we get is the white stuff up herehttp://audioheritage.csdco.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Southern California would be the right place to do it for a number of reasons:

right weather
big JBL market
large JBL community
easy shipping nationwide
abundant labor

But the cons are evident, too, most notably overcrowded and irrationally expensive. Believe me, coming from Van Buren Co. Michigan to here was an eye opener. I regret ever having sold my farm there, but I don't regret leaving the cold winters behind.

I have three warehouses here in LA County, but none are really zoned for manufacturing, and my guys would freak out if I put someone in one of them. PLUS, I'd probably lose my nonprofit license. However, I could check with some people who might be interested in branching out.

LA can be tough, but there are other, nicer areas in SoCal where you might be comfortable.

FWIW.

Too far west - don't know that California's tha place I oughta be - wouldn't load up my truck and move to Beverly...

Hills, that is - swimmin' pools, movie stars (Ms. Hathaway's dead, you know).

Also, someday the BIG one's gonna git ya all (hope not, but... )

I's thinking something more not so far West, but warm :bouncy: - or maybe a southern state, but not too far south (hurricanes ya know).

Would'nt the salt air blowing off the West Coast cause pre mature foam Rot or is that the intention for sustainable demand?

I love movie quotes -

there was a scene in some movie where the main character was telling the old Eskimo Chief that in order to understand wolves you should live among them to which the Chief replied:

"Goooed eye - dea"

No, actually the foam I use isn't affected by just about anything including (as Sylvester would say) "thsalt thspray!"

Also:

DOOOWN UNDER!

RIGHTO MATE!

How's the women?

OK, still looking. How about anyone living in such a desirable area send me some links or info on or help me find a rental? Max is about $400/mo - need a 1/2 way decent small house or trailer (garage or other work area a plus) IN A COUNTRY SETTING (important) - I'm one person possibly with a cat (house broke - me too!). Thanks.

Serious replies only plz.

But if you check this link from time to time, you might find what you're looking for. Rural, peaceful, warm (very hot but dry in the summer) and quite a change from MI. Close to a great casino and several posh resorts, plus a national park and Marine base.

I know you think CA is too far, but I made the move from Kalamazoo area to LA.

See post #5 and...

$400 MAX for a small house or trailer in the country with workspace/garage/or?

Dave - you got that right! Do I ever. W/O relocating, gonna be tough enough providing just plain grilles until next spring.

Let me add here a little more concerning something in my original post - I DO have other products in the works so someone looking to diversify or partner should listen up. I have another product ideal for someone in the cabinet/woodshop business which probably has an even greater potential than these grilles - not speakers either (altho I did design superior stereo/hi-fi furniture for years). I am a power seller on ebay and someone who is more computer/internet marketing savvy than me (which means a lot of people) or has such working for them would help make a great partnership.

Is very frustrating sitting on ideas worth potentially $$$$$$$$, but not having the contact(S) or help to make it happen.

They say a word to the wise is sufficient....

Sulphur Springs, TX?

Its about 90 miles east of Dallas on I-30. About 15000 people in the city, maybe a total of 25k in Hopkins Ccounty. (Rumor is that cows outnumber people...)

Local Economic Development Council is "funding" several businesses (that's bidnez) in order to redevelop the downtown area.

If your'e interested, I can pass some info for you as to how to contact the EDC.

(BTW: Been to Australia, not only do they drink warm beer, they drive funny. Last I heard the warm beer thing was 'cuz they got used to having Lucas refrigerators)
enjoy,

WJ

Mightaswell ad here...

been in the entrepreneur/inventing/self-employed line 30 years now - started out in speaker kit biz (Custom Sound Service) - moved to stereo furniture (eventually added computer benches, video carts) biz for several years with my own design(s) - displayed at CES in Chicago twice. Grille biz always was a part to one degree or another - figured if one thing didn't work...

...something's gotta click eventually.

The power of computers and internet marketing seem to add tremendous potential - now if I can just pull everything together - marketing, production, financing. Can't/won't give up now, huh?

Not after 30 years of B, S, and T :biting:

...in spades at times! :banghead:

Tucson has a lot of lower priced rentals. Average income there is lower than Phoenix by far, and the average summer temperature is 10 degrees cooler due to higher altitude. You would have no problem finding a space like you asking about there. To be more specific, I would recommend looking either South or West of town.

Have a lead on a well known national real estate auction company (williamsauctions.com) that monthly auctions off MANY great deals on foreclosed properties in every state - looking at some upcoming homes down south (several this month in Georgia) some of which will probably go for PEANUTS!

My problem is I don't have the ready cash so here's a deal for someone who does - help me research the upcoming auctions (might be able to do so on the phone) and buy the best deal I can find acting as your agent (very possibly less than $10,000 for a property worth at least double!). I will then rent/lease the place from you and/or perhaps eventually purchase (rent to own or other flexible buy-back) with the immediate cash flow I'll get from filling the many grille orders I'm sitting on (even have customers checks but aren't depositing them until I have grilles done!).

You'll get a secured investment with immediate cash flow and of course, help me out. Contact me.

We have a place in Weeki Wachee I'd thought you might be interested in but I just saw the hurricane note. As Rosanna Danna (SNL) would have said "Never Mind" But good luck location hunting!

I had read you were interested in moving to where the weather suits your clothes, or your speaker business. We have a place in Florida that we rent out, in Weeki Wachee. Then I saw your statement about to far south "hurricanes".

I'm glad you remember Rosanna, one of the best in my book, from the whole SNL cast. Can't leave out the Coneheads though, man they loved their beer, me too!

Hope I didn't confuse you. Did you move yet? We're in the 70's today, what a life :bouncy:

Haven't moved yet - Are there hurricanes after first of year? Is your place vulnerable (how have you faired so far?).

How much you want for rent?

I like mermaids ;) !

I was following the listings of a midwest commercial real estate agency on ebay for awhile. Some of the auctions were shocking- a complete public elementary school built in the 1960s, complete with classrooms, gym, commercial kitchen, athletic fields, etc. For $50k. There were many listings for properties under $80k with thousands of square feet, retail storefronts, many facilities built in, and a very business friendly local government. Of course these listings tended to be in tiny podunk communities 90 miles from noplace in Kansas, which has been known to have tornadoes- just ask Dorothy!

I consider real estate listings on ebay to be in their infant stage - some great deals BUT you have to carefully sort thru the WAY less than great ones!
Caveat Emptor!

The link I listed above shows some great deals too - just look at their completed sales - I've been to their auctions and they are 100% professional - many show up just to watch. Many are bought (I believe) as investments bu serious investors. I've let you all in on this little secret here - anyone want to take advantage?

Anyway, shortly or by next year at least, I should have my problems resolved one way or another.

Sonofagun yesterday MSN.COM had an article re national real estate prices which listed the locations of the lowest priced/undervalued properties. College Station TX came out on top with $135,000 to $140,000 average. Other large TX metro areas wern't much more statewide. Warm and dry climate for making those beautiful grills and not unfriendly (like NY/MA/CA/NJ) to your other interests/hobbies.

Off the cuff I would say $1,000,000.00+/- for that house in Marblehead MA, much much more if it has a waterview.

Roundhead is about a thousand miles from me, all I've ever heard is the area is beautiful but extremely expensive.

Spent most of my time in Aus around Adelaide and Geelong. Actually kinda liked the place (especially the Barossa valley area and the Twelve Apostles). When I came back from my longest single trip (five months), I really had trouble watching the cars on what my mind told me was NOW the wrong side of the road!!

So, is that your house?

(The Lucas comment comes from a misspent youth keeping Triumphs running!)

At the rate I am spending on my JBL interests unfortunately no.

Why is it that anything to do with JBL's put you in a negative cash position..eternally?

I was so impressed with this particular street I just had to stop on my way down the coast (last year).

But it is on my wish list. I worked it out the other day that it would be cheaper to migrate and buy a place than import stuff from over here! Perhaps when I retire I will live 6 months a year in the U.S.A .

Amusingly, I drove (collectively) over 2500 American miles and not one boo boo in the 4 weeks I was there. The pretty impressive for an Aussie driver and I owe it to the Putnam driving school.

Dear Doctor What (Where? When?):

Go to www.williamsauction.com (http://www.williamsauction.com) and look at the deals one can obtain.

I'm sure you can find a smoking deal - down south and you can then rent it out to me :applaud: .

So far, no SERIOUS replies or inquiries here. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Edit: Cripe! I just noticed I gave the wrong auction link in my earlier post - there's no "s" at the end of williamsauction! An "s" takes you to a different web site! Nuts!

Web site in this post IS correct. :banghead:
