I spent today in the Silver City mining region of Idaho. First stop, the ghost town of DeLamar and one of its abandonned houses.

All that's left of the mill at DeLamar.

DeLamar is not a complete ghost town. There is exactly one resident - Bernie.

Meet Bernie.

She invited me in for a look. Bernie has been here for 20 years and supports herself with crafts made from found objects in the ruins and surrounding area. There is no power here and only propane lights. However, she has managed to fashion a hot tub in back.

The road from DeLamar to Silver City. It's even more "interesting" than the roads in the Marshall Lake region.

And here is Silver City, the best authentic ghost town I have ever visited. This is a picture of the school.

The main street in Silver City with the hotel on the left. You will note that every vehicle here is a 4X4. While it is possible to approach from the east (I came in from the west) in a 2wd vehicle, the road remains unpaved and rough. Therefore, the town has escaped the ravages of mass tourism and crass comercialization.

The lobby of the hotel. This picture is deceiving as it was taken with a flash. There is no power in town, so the lobby is in near total darkness.

And finally, some of the permanent residents.
