Why did Ed May leave JBL?

HM,

Ed May was lured away form JBL on two occasions by career advancing offers:

1) In 1969, he was recruited by and joined Cetec Gauss.
Subsequently, he was rehired by JBL in 1972.

2) He left JBL in 1976, to join Marantz Superscope.
He died in 1980 while still employed at Marantz.
