Hello, Some years ago I got a job of re-coning a pair of 2235H. When I received the speakars I thought they where pretty nice but the foam surround looked bad and the owner wanted to re-cone them. When starting the job to cut out the old cones I decided to take it very easy and I tried to save those old cones to the future. So using a lot of solvent I manage to save them intact. When looking at them to day I discovered that the coil former was made of Aluminum and I cant remember that I have seen a JBL coil former made of Al? Did JBL ever used aluminum in 2235H at that time? My question is: are those cone kits original 2235H cones or is it aftermarked cone kit? data measured: length of voice coil: 19 to 20 mm approx. Total weight of cone kits approx 144 grams (including the black mass ring) DCR measured 6.10 and 6.30 ohms It clearly says "2235 H" on the rear of cones. I have attached some detailed pictures of the old cones so it will be easier to find out what it is.....

Looks like a JBL kit to me. Your numbers seem close enough too.

FWIW, I think your cone kit is actually from a Stage Accompany (https://www.stageaccompany.com/index.html) 1503 woofer.

Not that it matters much, since it's obviously compatible with the JBL magnetic assembly ( which SA copied when they started making their own woofers back in the mid-late 1980's ).

Is it? I know the surrounds fit, but what about the magnet assembly depth and such?

Yes, you're right about your concerns about the Voice-Coil depth ( vis-a-vis ) being properly centered to the middle of a JBL's top-plate ( iow, the gap-depth alignment ).

That may need adjusting ( if doable > if there's enough overall height in the bobbin > assuming the 1503 is a bit shallower ).

Sorry, I was careless in my off-the-cuff assessment about compatibility ( it may not be, physically 100% ).

It would've been a bit too easy :))) Especially AFAIK the SA cones are still being manufactured as opposed to C8R2235.

FYI. The cones was removed from a pair of JBL 2235H
