Hi ,I think the original jbl replacement diaphragms D16R475nd is almost impossible to find. Recently I found out TAD still produce new diaphragms for their compression drivers. If I’m not wrong they are beryllium coated instead of aquaplus. Does anyone know if the TAD diaphragms will fit the jbl drivers? Thanks.

BTW: They are solid beryllium, not coated.

Did something happen to your M9500’s?

Try sending member Sebackman a PM He is using 8 ohm 475Nd diaphragms in 2451 cores. If you can find 16 ohm 2451SL diaphragms that might work. He has also done some compatibility testing.

Here is the thread page post 58

These are uncoated but should fit just in case! Hope can find some coated ones

D8R2450SL is still available.

The high-pass driver unit is equipped with 475 nd.
The 475 nd is a refined unit based on 2450J. The magnetic circuit has been changed from an external magnetic type to an internal magnetic type. In addition, the diaphragm has been changed from a ribbed type to a flat dome diaphragm coated with Aqua Plus in consideration of sound quality. The diaphragm diameter is 4 inches (10 cm) and the diamond edge suspension ensures linear operation.

Thanks guys. Just wondering if the ribbed Dia without aquaplus will sound very different from the original Dia. If it’s only marginal difference I think I can accept.

The 2450SL dia with aquaplas sounds smoother than the ribbed one.

Look for D16R2451SL they should be about the same than D16R475ND. TAD DP4001 does not suit to JBL drivers. If you want to try Be diaphragm on JBL driver: https://materion.com/-/media/files/electrofusion/a_truextent_info/tds2003_bex4008_16.pdf https://materion.com/products/beryllium-products/truextent-acoustic-beryllium https://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?9162-Beryllium-upgrade-for-JBL-compression

Apparently you can get these Truextent/Meterion 4" Be diaphragms through Radian: https://www.usspeaker.com/radian%20index-1.htm
(search for "Radian 1245Be-16" in the page)

That said a 16 ohms Ti SL diaphragm is a better fit for a M9500, and also cheaper.
There are have been several versions of these SL diaphragms: ribbed or not, surrounds coated or not. There ought to be some differences in the HF response.
I think the DMS-1 did use two variants of these diaphragms during its life cycle without any filter modification (that I know of), but I cannot remember which versions they were exactly?...
