Last fall I came across an ad on kijiji for a pair of 4560 cabinets, for free, about 5 minutes from my house, I said what the heck, can not let them go to waste :D
They are not original and quite beat up, old cabinets that were used by the city of Montreal, but they are sturdy.
They spent the winter on my deck under a tarp and now they are ready to rock.
I had two beaten up 2225 that I purchased 40$ each for the core and they turned out to be OK but with considerable spider sag, I had them spend the winter face down with some weight on the cone and they came back centered.
Picked up two old 2370 this winter for 25$, had a 2425 lying around that I got into a package deal that cost me next to nothing, and I had two pyramid 2402 copies brand new in the box, I bought those many years ago for a project and never used them.

All I had to volunteer was on of my "good" 2426 to comple the setup.

Built a crossover based on the 3110a (Solen is only a bycicle ride away), some paint, a support for the 2425, new fasteners and a nice sticker.

Voilą :D
They are rough, they are meant to be kicked around and they will sleep outside, rain or shine, but they should be fun.

Interesting salvaging job for cabs destined to waste... They seem a little taller and narrower than original cabs?

As part of your fun, and they should be as party boxes, one has to keep in mind a 4560 limitation with regards to LF driver used.

The 4560 cab was intially designed with the 2220A in mind with its 2 mm Xmax, or even a K130 for extended MF/HF response, but with 0.76 mm Xmax. The 2225 has 5 mm Xmax so notably more than the previous two.

JBL has issued in the past a caution note about using a longer excursion drivers with their front loaded horns. There's the possibility the cone may strike the LF horn's throat and make some noise if you push it too much. So you might have to restraint yourself LF wise with the 2225 in such application. (See pic)

I know that later JBL did use the 2225 in some of their 4560 type cabs but in those they probably increased the space to allow for a larger driver excursion...

Thanks, yeah, I know all these documents by heart ;)
They are taller to accomodate a section for the HF horn, but the inside dimensions are respected as you can appreciate on the pictures. Are they exactly accurate, well, close enough for that purpose.
I don't know how exactly the original cabs were done, but the 2225 is mounted on a ¾" thick round baffle so the cone would need to extend at 1" out to actually touch the mouth of the horn, I don't really see that happening and if it does, well, that means I need to put in a new driver :D

I think the originals had a baffle that had exactly the shape of the horn mouth, is that possible?

Here's a 1979 original 4560 pic (clear enough to be enlarged) dressed up as 4662/3 with the K130 woofer, not much later replaced in the "A" versions with the E140. In parallel to this (1980), 4560 Theater Systems were using the E145 (4672, 4674). But the 1986 "A" versions of the latter were switched to the 2225.

So this versatile PA enclosure has housed, as original equipment, a number of woofers: 2220, K130, E140, E145, 2225 (possibly K140 also, would need to dig further). This gives a good idea of suitable drivers for the 4560.

Though specified as being usable in their front loaded horns i haven't seen much 2205 used in these boxes. They're probably too busy loading rear loaded horns (4520/4530).

Since you mentioned the cabs remain outside, then i understand you'll use these out in the open, which is a good idea for such longer throw boxes. The neighbors might not fully agree though, lol

Anyway, have fun with the party boxes and let us know how they sound...

EDIT: I have not seen a factory 4560 loaded with the 2227 which is another potential candidate for the cab.
